I would go every 6 weeks or so. I have never had an exact number of days. Sometimes, I would go 40 days, then 19, and then 30, and that sequence repeated twice. Anyways, I've never heard of anyone going every 5 months or so, unless they were stressed, underweight, or athletic. If you're none of the above, I'd go to the OBGYN just to get checked out because it's possible there might be something wrong.

I had stints of anorexia and poor food decisions in association with my teen years for a while and my period would only come every few months too. It got back to (somewhat) normal after about a half a year. I am not implying this is your problem, but they can be factors.
Also, there could be a "delay" with your hormones telling your ovaries to release an egg, therefore making irregular periods.
This could just be your body going at its own rate, or a problem with one of your glands.

Irregular periods are always a sign of hormonal imbalances. Possibly your ovarian hormones (oestrogen & progesterone), or your gonodotrophins (follice stimulating hormone & luteinizing hormone) -- these hormones control your menstrual cycle and if they are not working properly will cause irregular periods. My periods are irregular too. Not as irregular as yours but still irregular. You probably might want to just have a doctor check you out, just in case it's anything serious.

Yes, there are women who have irregular periods. Its the way their body reacts to whatever is going on in your life. Irregular periods could be caused by stress on any level - (work, family, life in general). I used to be like that then i found out it was all my stress that caused it plus OBgyn prescribed me pills to regulate my body. If you can, go see a OBgym and find out how you can regulate your period. Be sure that you're not pregnant first ok.?

EVEN THOUGH IT MIGHT NOT BE A BIG DEAL, I WOULD SAY GO TO YOUR GYN AND HAVE YOUR HORMONE LEVELS CHECKED--I ASSUME THAT YOU ARE NOT STARTING MENOPAUSE YET, HOWEVER, LISTEN TO THIS:
I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THAT AS WELL, AND I ALWAYS WAS TOLD BY MY DOC THAT IT WAS NO BIG DEAL---AND THEN IT BECAME ONE REAL QUICK BECAUSE I STARTET TO GET CRAMPS, PROLONGED BLEEDINGS, AND THEN BLEEDINGS THAT WOULDN'T STOP. AFTER TAKING THESE HORMONE LEVEL TESTS DID MY DOCTOR FINALLY FIGURE OUT THAT I HAD HUGE HORMONE PROBLEMS, WHICH IN TURN LED TO TUMORS--THE WHOLE NINE YARDS. I DO NOT WANT TO SCARE YOU---JUST MAKE SURE ALL IS OK, AND SEE TO IT IF YOU CAN HAVE THE TESTS PICKED UP IN YOUR PREVENTIVE CARE AGENDA(SO THAT THE INSURANCE PAYS FOR THEM)

Go see a doctor. It could be many things - depending on your age, you could be pre-menopausal. Being too thin can affect your period. But a doctor will be able to answer this question most effectively.

it could be many things...depending on your diet and age. some women do have irregular periods. if you're eating healthy and you're not 35 or older, then you should talk to your gynecologist.

if this is not a new thing to you than it is normal for you. I went through that during severe dieting, maybe you are not taking in enough calories or are dehydrated.
