The error message I keep receiving is:

Explorer has caused an error in OLE 32.DLL.
Explorer will now close.
If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer.

Of course, I've restarted the computer multiple times with no luck. This box pops up once the computer starts up. I can click OK on the error box but the box immediately pops up again. I cannot opern any programs or perform and tasks while this dialogue box is open, yet I can't get it to go away. Please help (and please be specific). If I need some sort of disc to repair this, please let me know what to look for and where I might find it.

THANKS!!!

-- Instinct #1: Spyware. (Well, actually, Malware.) Try to boot in safe mode (press F8 after your PC beeps during startup, or after the manufacturer logo disappears) and run your spyware removal program or virus scanner.

-- Instinct #2: Virus. Knowning specifically which would be hard, since tens of thousands of them could have caused this. The best way to fix this is to start clean: Find a good PC nerd and have them reformat the hard drive and reinstall your Windows completely. You essentially will be starting over here, so if possible, get whatever critical files off your hard drive (to be virus scanned) so the data isn't lost after restoring your PC.

-- Instinct #3: File corruption. It happens, and hard drives are mechanical devices: they eventually fail. This problem is pretty similar to the one above. Get a new one, insert it, partition it and format it, and start over.

I am going to assume you have xp, you very possibly have a virus, and since you are unable to run a scan you are very limited as to what you can now do.

If you have the windows installation CD's then unless I am completely mistaken I think you can run the install program and it has an option to repair your windows O/s!

If you don't have the CD's or your using an older version of windows then you are going to have to either go to M/S website and get the files you need, ask a friend if they have a copy of windows CD's and borrow them to get the files or repair your system, or you can format HDD start from scratch again. If you have a virus then if you do a repair it is possible the virus will cause you other problems.

It could however just be a bad sector on your HDD that has corrupted the file and the repair will fix everything.

Please download Atribune's VundoFix.exe (version 4.2.71 [as of 21 April '06], or later), from

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

and save it to your desktop.

Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK Note: If VundoFix does not reopen after a minute (or two), then you should skip-over the "Run as a task" step, and continue-on to the following steps to SCAN and REMOVE.
When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
Turn your computer back on.

When starting up the computer at the very beginning there will be an option to do a System Restore by pressing an F key. Do this. You will start back at square one and may lose some of your stuff but you should get your computer back to operating. I had to do this recently and it works.

Sounds like you need to reload your windows or if you bought your system from a company like HP run the system recovery disc & if you lost it call the manufacturer or go o a friends internet or the local library & usually they'll send you a copy; for your make & model of your PC; at not cost to you but it depends on the the type of recovery disc you will need. I repair computers for friends & one computer I got it for free & my neighbors PC recovery disc cost $10:00. Otherwise you need to reload your Windows version with an actual Windows "?" disc.

A virus has deleted a part of your Windows Operating System. You are going to need to either boot from Windows CD and reinstall, or call Micro$oft or your PC Manufacturer and ask them to send you the missing files. It's less expensive to reformat and reinstall Windows.
