The reason why I'm asking this is because I see a lot of similarities between the logic of people who defended slavery and the logic of the people today who defend, uh, well anyway I was interested in drawing some comparisons. When I ask how many people were pro-slavery, I mean all people who weren't opposed to it, so that can also include people who were simply indifferent to it.

All you have to do is study the Civil War... and to see which US States were Union States and which states were Rebel States. As to %, there is no figures to answer your question... as to the intentions of individuals... that is impossible to answer at this late date...
