I highly recommend you wear goggles if you swim with soft contacts on your eyes. Although not usually a problem, there are all kinds of nasty bugs living in swimming pools (and hot tubs as well). One of these creatures, called acanthameba, can cause horrible pain and damage to your eye, very often necessitating a corneal transplant. And the water can change the way your lenses fit, making them too tight and causing severe eye health problems.

So, either take them out for swimming or wear goggles. Better safe than sorry. — Dr. Dubow

Contacts are at risk when you swim unless you keep your eyes closed under water or if you wear a good pair of goggles. I go for the goggles. Swimming without contacts is impossible because then you run the risk of running into someone or a wall.

I wear my contacts in the water all the time. I also have worn them in a swimming pool and opened my eyes underwater. I havent had any problems but there is a risk of losing your contacts if you are underwater with your eyes open long enough. But other than that you should be fine with going in the water with your contacts in.

no risk except the possibility of them falling out. Avoid opening your eyes underwater and splashing fights, and you'll be fine! I wear goggles if i am in to swim for a workout, so thats an option too.

You should probably take them out, but its really up to you. Both my kids swim and scuba dive with their contacts in, but they usually replace them right after. They never wash out of the eyes and for the most part they are safe. Call your eye doctor & ask if you are not sure. Diffeant contacts and doctors have differant thoughts on this.

i wear contacts but i wouldn't recommend you to use them in the water, especially in the swimming pool, the water contains lots of chemicals and bacteria which may cause irritation to your eyes and the lenses will make it worse. i say use goggle or skip the contacts if you're not blind without them.

YOU CAN SWIM IN THEM---AS LONG AS YOUR HEAD DOES NOT GET UNDER WATER(THAT WILL WASH THEM OUT). BUT I WOULD JUST GET ME A PAIR OF PRESCRIPTION SUNGLASSES FOR THE SWIMMING AND WEAR THOSE, BECAUSE YOU STILL CAN ACCIDENTIALLY WASH OUT A CONTACT AND LOSE IT. IF YOU PREFER TO SWIM IN THEM, JUST MAKE SURE THAT YOU CLEAN THEM WELL AFTERWARDS TO AVOID INFECTION FROM THE DIRTY WATER.
