i talked to my dial up servise provider and they said i would have to buy a modem from them. can i just get a modem from best buy? they all so said that i couldn't get it in more than one location without being charged twice. is this true? couldn't i get it at my house and some where else if i took my computer with me? if somone knows exactly how it works, pleas explain.

ok, right now, all i have to do with my dial up is setup and acount on any computer, plug it in and i'm good to go. can i do this with dsl?

you can only use it on the phone line subscribed to, you can network other computers to it, but only the one line, you could use another modem, but you have to be able to do all the settings yourself, and they would help with tech support

Go to http://www.verizon.net/ for dsl. You could use your laptop on the internet in your house with a network, either wired or wireless. The salespeople at best buy have a router which you plug into the dsl modem you rent from verizon and then you can hook up your computers to that. You can get a card for your laptop to access the internet anywhere but that would be a separate bill if you want to use it far from home.

Yahoo DSL is good. They supply the modem and it's about $14.95 a month. (I think it's AT&T now).

call your phone company they probably have it. or who ever your internet provider is
