They're an aerosol of HCl droplets, so avoid breathing them. Hydrogen is also given off. Al has a thin film of Al2O3 on it, so there are two reactions. Al2O3 +6HCl=2AlCl3 +3 H2O, and
Al+3HCl=AlCl3 +3/2 H2.
