Women have been arrested and sent to jail for spousal abuse. You don't hear much about it because, for the most part, men are stronger than women and a woman would have to be crazy to start a physical fight with someone who can kill her with one punch. And please, always remember, TV is not real life. A woman slaps a man on TV to add drama and excitement to the plot, but if she slapped him in real life, it wouldn't cause any physical harm to most men. If a man, however, hauled off and slapped a woman, his upper body strength would propel her into the next room. And no, equal rights between men and women is another myth. Just look at payroll statistics.

First off, NO there are NOT equal right for men and women.
Why?
It would be stupid to treat them equally because they are DIFFERENT.
We still have segregated bathrooms for men and women, only men may be drafted into armed forces, only women may become a waiter at hooters, etc, etc.
The law recognizes the REAL differences (not stereotypes!!!) between a man and a woman and thus allows some sex discrimination.
Now, as far as assault goes -- it is up to an assaulted person to press charges. If a woman hits a man, she is liable for assault as much as man for hitting a woman. It is just that a man is far less likely to press charges because he will feel bad about everyone knowing that he was beat up by a woman.
But this just goes so far. For example, if a woman hits a man with a car and breaks his legs she will be hit by a lawsuit faster then she can say "sorry."

It's not okay for anyone to hit anyone. For some reason society has decided that women are just so enpowered now that they can go around kicking their men in the butt everytime something doesn't go right. And men are going to take it because most of them won't fight a woman and they also won't admit to anyone that their woman is beating them.

Some women (and men) do deserve it, but it's still not okay to hit them.

We women need to learn to stay in our place. We should not be abused. But we should also realize that in order for a family to work right, someone has to give in a little. It should be us, because what man is ever going to admit he's wrong lol?

Violence is not the answer. If you are single and get cheated on, it's better you find out now rather than later. If you are married and get cheated on and decide reconciliation is not going to work, divorce on the grounds of adultery. Some states still have this listed as a reason for divorce and people should use it.

Gender doesn't matter as to how the law is written. However, the in reality the application of the law takes into account situation, and who is better able to defend themself.

Assault as a crime is based on who presses charges. Assault (actually Battery) as a tort is a civil action and there are no gender limits on who can sue. So, it's not so much that one is OK, while the other is not. It's who chooses to do something about what happens.

TV is TV, not real life. In real life it is not proper or "right" for a man or woman to hit each other or cheat on each other.
