Yes it is
"Midnight Train to Georgia", which won the Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals of 1973
LA proved too much for the man
(Too much for a man, he couldn't take it)
He couldnt make it, so he's leaving a life he's come to know
(He said he's going)
He said he's going back to find
(Going back to find)
What's left of his world
The world he left behind not so long ago
He's leaving
(Leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train)
Said he's going back
(Going back to find)
To find a simpler place and time
(Whenever he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side)
I'll be with him
(I know you will)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia, woo woo)
I'd rather live in his world,
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world, is his and hers alone)
He kept dreaming
(Dreaming)
That some day he'd be a star
(A superstar, but he didn't get far)
But he sure found out the hard way,
That dreams don't always come true
(Dreams don't always gome true, uh huh, no, uh huh)
So he pawned all his hopes
(Ooh, ooh, ooh ooh)
And even sold his old car
(Woo, woo, woo)
For a one way ticket back to the life he once knew
Oh yes he did, he said he would
He's leaving
(Leaving)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train)
Yeah, said he's going back to find
(Going back to find)
A simpler place and time
(Whenever he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side)
I'm gonna be with him
(I know you will)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia, woo woo)
I'd rather live in his world,
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world, it's his and hers alone)
He's leaving
(Leaving)
On the midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on the midnight train to)
Said he's going back to find
(Going back to find)
A simpler place and time
(Whenever he takes that ride, guess who's gonna be right by his side)
I've got to be with him
(I know you will)
On that midnight train to Georgia
(Leaving on a midnight train to Georgia, woo woo)
I'd rather live in his world,
(Live in his world)
Than live without him in mine
(World, world it's his, his and hers alone)
My love, gonna board the midnight train to Georgia (x3)
My world, his world, our world, mine and his alone (x2)
I've got to go (x5)
My world, his world, my man, his girl
What did you want to know about the next one? '
The song tells the story of a girl (sister) who shot a the guy that was sleeping with her brothers wife and also shot his wife-the brother discovered the friends body and had a gun so he fired a shot just to get the attention of the cops who- when they showed up - decided he actually did the killing and did not wait to have a trial they just declared him guilty and hung him for murder-the song then says the wife's body is one that'l never be found and that 'his little sister don't miss when she aims her gun' the sister telling the story is actually the one who committed the murders
Its has been more recently redone by Reba McIntyre
The Night the Lights went out iin Georgia was i believe sung by Vicki Lawrence
The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia
He was on his way home from candletop
Been two weeks gone and he thought heâ€â¢d stop
At webâ€â¢s and have him a drink for he went home to her
Andy wo-lo said hello
He said hi whatâ€â¢s a doing
Wo said sit down I got some bad news thatâ€â¢s gonna hurt
Said Iâ€â¢m your best friend and you know thatâ€â¢s right
But your young bride ainâ€â¢t home tonight
Since you been gone sheâ€â¢s been seeing that amos boy seth
He got mad and he saw red
Andy said boy donâ€â¢t you lose your head
Cause to tell you the truth Iâ€â¢ve been with her myself
Chorus:
Thatâ€â¢s the night the lights went out in georgia
Thatâ€â¢s the night that they hung an innocent man
Donâ€â¢t trust your soul to no back woods southern lawyer
Cause the judge in the townâ€â¢s got bloodstains on his hand
Andy got scared and left the bar
Walking on home cause he didnâ€â¢t live far you see
Andy didnâ€â¢t have many friends and he just lost him one
Brother thought his wife mustâ€â¢ve left town
So he went home and finally found the only thing
Daddy had left him and that was a gun
He went off to andyâ€â¢s house
Slipping through the back woods quiet as a mouse
Came upon some tracks too small for andy to make
He looked through the screen at the back porch door
He saw andy lying on the floor
In a puddle of blood and he started to shake
The georgia patrol was making their rounds
So he fired a shot just to flag em down
And a big bellied sheriff grabbed his gun and said
Whyâ€â¢d you do it?
The judge said guilty in a make believe trial
Slapped the sherrif on the back with a smile and said
Suppers waiting at home and I got to get to it
Chorus
They hung my brother before I could say
The tracks he saw while on his way
To andyâ€â¢s house and back that night were mine
And his cheatin wife had never left town
And thatâ€â¢s one body thatâ€â¢ll be found
You see little sister donâ€â¢t miss when she aims her gun
