My toenails are falling off and skin is getting nasty. I use great shoes and socks, but still this is happening.

How do people who run marathons deal with it?

Are you sure your not tieing your shoelaces too tight? Well you should try Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Creme, it softens your feet and it may help with that. Your could also check with a doctor because it could be an infection that is caused by some unknown source other than your shoes and socks. And just because you think your shoes and socks are good, doesn't really for sure mean they are. Well I hope everything works out.

I get regular pedicures to keep my toenails at the proper length and shape. Short and straight across so they do not rub against the insides of the toe box.

The pedicure also keeps excessive skin from forming calluses, blisters, etc.

I also wear two thin pairs of running socks when I run. If something wants to rub, let it be two pairs of socks, not my skin. i also use body Glide on my feet before a really long run to reduce friction.
I NEVER EVER wear cotton socks, they do not wick away moisture. please spend the money on running socks I'm sure you probably already know this though if you run a lot....
You may want to see a DR to get your skin problem assessed before you get that pedicure though, okay? Good luck!

soak your feet in pepermint extract, try to keep your feet dry by putting medicated powder right in your socks before putting them on, always wear white cotton socks
