My seventh grade teacher was married to an Iranian and her situation was very similar. Thank God there wasn't any kids involved and he let her go. He really did love her though and she loved him and when she went to live with him and his family they were the the ones that was making the son treat her so badly. He was doing it to honor his family and she went along with some of it because she loved him. But he realized that he was breaking her heart so he let her go. His family allowed this because they thought that she couldn't conceive a child.
