I guess you know as much economics as you do political science (about zero). Tariffs and taxes are functionally the same. Taxes are paid into the government, but the government spends the taxes again, which actually creates a multiplier effect (as the dollars spent by government get passed further through our economy) which encourages economic growth. Tariff costs on imports are usually paid by domestic merchants, not foreigners, as you ignorantly proclaim. Those merchants generally pass the tariff costs on to the consumers, which means more money for the same item, a good indication of negative growth. Tariff costs on exports raise the cost of domestic products internationally, reducing exports and discouraging economic growth. Those are just some basic, grade-school facts of economics. Maybe you should turn to learning some elementary economics before you start lecturing the world as though you've stumbled upon some magic fact that nobody else ever thought of. Get over yourself and read a book or two.
By the way, in answer to this question, yes, there are other people out there who believe as you do. You can write to them in just about any federal penitentiary, serving time for tax evasion, where they can probably earn good behavior credits by telling you what a stupid, stupid idea you're fixating on.

It's not the people. The lobbyists have convinced senators and congressmen to fool the people into thinking we must pay for their insolence out of our own pockets. I don't think tariffs are the answer. a Fari tac is much more sensible, because the people can control the amount the government makes and there will be much less money wasted on pointless government beaurocracy. EVERYONE will have to pay the tax... honest people, drug dealers, hookers, illegal immigrants, everyone. But we must pay out of our own pockets to keep the government running. Tariffs would be unreliable because of foreign diplomacy and the idea that it would be stupid to travel to a country or do business with a country that makes you pay more than another. It would actually be a liability. $20 million in research has been done at universities around the country such as MIT, and it has been determined that the FairTax would be the best plan for everyone...except of course the corrupt lobbyists. Many jobs would be liquidated in the government, but many more would be gained around the US.

The only commodity that I am aware of is oil in Alaska. This only works because the oil is being removed from State owned land, and is therefore the property of the citizens of that State. The oil companies pay a fee to remove the oil, and that fee is passed on to the citizens after the state bills are paid.
Other items begin to take the form of Communism. For example, if the commodity becomes corn, the State must own sufficient land to support charging enough of a fee that would cover state expenses.
The large areas of the US that are state-owned are considered uninhabitable, such as the desert in Nevada and most of Alaska.

Who are these 3 other gov's and what commodity? If its oil well then that obviously makes sense. We pay taxes for things like firemen, police, overall protection, plus rediculous things like socialist programs where we take care of the lazy and stupid who don't deserve the money.

We have the commodity. Seems like the problem is the tree huggers won't let us remove it from the ground or under the Gulf.
And I'm all for no taxes, seeing as the money is just pissed away on socialist programs for degenerates.

If you wanna jack up the tariffs to cover the amount that would be realized through taxes, then you're gonna have to accept chaos.
If we alienate our foreign neighbors by bunkrupting them with tariffs, they won't come here to sell their stuff. And, they have good stuff... BMW, NOKIA, SONY, etc.
And, I agree with Takeashot30... We don't need to be supporting people who are lazy, especially with the tax revenue from people who aren't!!!

Who pays for our road ways, our bridges, our military, street lights, etc, etc, etc? I don't like paying taxes either, but I also like to drive my car on roads and over bridges. I like to know we have a police department, fire department, or ambulance that we can call on in an emergency. I like to know that we have a military that protects our boarders. In America we have so many rights (not that driving your car on a road is a right), but we also have responsibilities. If you want a great country, you have to invest in it. That includes voting, obeying the laws, and paying your taxes.
