...believing that things need not get better.
I know that sounds like contentment. You may wish it read happiness is knowing things cannot get better, but; that is faith. Contentment and Happiness run hand and hand. So why do people all complain that you are satisfying for contentment when you should be struggling for true happiness? They don't realize that contentment is not false happiness. It simply isn't an orgasm, or euphoria, of any of the extrme forms of happiness. But even at the extreme, nobody believes things need get any better than they already are. Most of them believe thing can't get any better. They can, and when they do, more happiness.

Real Happiness and Inner Peace
Real happiness and peace can be ONLY found in submitting to the commands of the Creator and the Sustainer of this world. God has said in the Qur’an: (Truly, in remembering God do hearts find rest.)
(Qur’an, 13:28)
On the other hand, the one who turns away from the Qur’an will have a life of hardship in this world. God has said:
(But whoever turns away from the Qur’an, he will have a hard life, and We will raise him up blind on the Day of Judgment.) (Qur’an, 20:124)
This may explain why some people commit suicide while they enjoy the material comfort money can buy. For example, look at Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), formerly a famous pop singer who used to earn sometimes more than $150,000 a night. After he converted to Islam, he found true happiness and peace, which he had not found in material success.

Happiness with your life makes you want to keep living life to the fullest, living each day with a unique outlook.
Happiness in the workplace pushes you to work harder, to do the best you can... and if you get a promotion or a raise the process starts all over again, lol.
Happiness in romance makes you believe even more in love, and pushes you cherish each moment with your significant other, doing things to make those moments even more special.
Those are just a few examples... and it's only my opinion, cuz I've been there in all three.

True happiness (the temporary enjoyment of fortune) is the result of joy (a source of happiness) which is based on hope (expectation of fullfilment, promise of the future)
This is all Jesus Christ the giver of the Hope of Glory. That is the focus of life and once your focus is in the right place everything else falls in order.

it is everchanging...and personal. We only know what makes ourselves happy, and we are in a sense responsible for our own happiness. For me, my basic sense of happiness is know that at the end of each day I have tried to do the right thing and tried to do it well, that I walk through this chaos called life and try to make better decisions, meet good people, and nurture myself along the way. To help those less fortunate, and aspire to do better myself. To enjoy the simplicities of this world, appreciate each time I smile at memories I have had, and to promise to make more times to look back on in the future. Happiness is what we choose to make it, and for each of us, the recipe is different...

A life in Christ. There can be no happiness without Jesus. He loves you and will never leave or forsake you. He will always provide for you. He cannot hate you or sin against you because he is pure love. He is the only person that can promise you eternal life.

Depends on what makes you happy.
When I was younger I was willing to settle for less than my hopes-if I had gotten I would have settled with that happiness although never really found peace within
Since, growing up I suppose I've realised there is no settling for less than your hopes or wishes, if you can't have them then you have to accept that you can't.
Accepting what you can't have, is better than settling for less. True happiness comes with peace within, and sometimes that means sacrifice

Hi, wow powerful question........My belief is that happiness is the most simple moments in life, the ones we always just take for granted till something bad happens. Happiness is reflecting over all those moments throughout life and being able to say to yourself that you lived a good life.......................... Good luck

over-rated, and almost always only recognized in retrospect.
It's rare to feel really happy - which is just as well, for otherwise it'd get ho-hum. Content's a good feeling to aim for in the 24/7 world.
