I was attempting to search for info on this nasty problem...and my search was turned into a question...my apologies.

I still have this problem, after using adaware, spybot, norton, mcafee stinger, and the trend micro product. Norton detects virus downloads and deletes them every few seconds. False system failure messages pop up every 30 minutes (and cannot be closed or moved), and nearly every tool that you might choose to use to fix things are locked (system tasks cannot be killed, you cannot unhide folders, control panel locks up or comes up as a false display?, etc...). Also, your homepage is modified to 'about:blank' every few seconds and it shows a fake 'windows security center' screen indicating you have spyware.

Still working on this problem on my own, now using a second computer (since the infected one is pretty much a hunk of plastic and metal right now).

btw - every search that you perform on the infected machine re-routes you to www.antispywarebox.com - theoretic

When your machine is completely taken over by this thing, you don't have the option of entering a question (when your URL contains the phrase ANTISPYWAREBOX, you immediately get hijacked/re-directed). For all the folks who took the time to point out that it was a poor question - wow, thanks so much for the worthless response. Now go find some other hobby.

For those who may have this problem - The folks here:

have devised a series of fixes which appear to work. Thanks to the poster who passed the link on to me...

Visit www.microsoft.com and download Windows Defender beta 2. Believe me, u wont get any problems after that. For antivirus, download AVG free antivirus (www.grisoft.com) and for adware, download Lavasoft Adaware SE (www.lavasoft.com). Thanks!!

Put the name of the infection in Google or Yahoo search and it will list sites to tell you how to get rid of it.

If you're looking for anto spyware, try Microsoft Anto-Spyware Beta
