I think that focusing on things that don't matter makes us die without living. We spend so much time worrying about money, and careers, which do matter, but there are more important things.
Also, our fear keeps us from really living sometimes. We have this comfort zone that we stay in, and we never really get out and live.
Another thing might be laziness. We're just too lazy to go out and live our lives.
