Do you tip when you get take-out food at a restaurant? Are you supposed to?

I don't mean at a fast food place, I mean at a restaurant. I never tip at take-out places but I read that you are supposed to tip when you get take-out. I really don't understand why you are supposed to tip. I mean they put food in a box. Why do they deserve extra money for that?

when i worked at a restaurant, we added a 17 percent tip automatically to take out orders. I know it sounds weird, but there is a lot more to it than you think. You do everything involved in waiting on a table except the maintaining service part. A waitress still has to do the set up, get necessary condiments but most importantly, waitresses have to pay taxes based on their sales, not what they actually make. You have to declare eight percent of your total sales. This is because we are paid much less than mimimum wage. Therefore if i sell 20,000 dollars worth of food per year, i have to pay taxes on 8 percent of the 20,000 whether i get tipped or not. So if you don't tip me, i still have to pay taxes on the sale, which means you cost me money. By tipping, all you are doing is defraying that. Trust me, no one ever got rich by waiting tables.

You are not supposed to i know cuz i work at one they get payed around $7 to $8 per hour you are only supposed to tip people that make $5 per hour. If you do give them a tip at a fast food they are not supposed to keep it they are supposed to put it in they till's but most them take them for themselves

You don't tip when you buy at the restaurant.

You do tip, however, when you call ahead and order a meal and come later to pick it up, you are tipping the person who took the time to package your food.

Though they won't spit on your food if you don't, they'd probably remember you for doing so since so many people either don't know to or don't care to tip.

i usually tip them if they look like they have had a bad day or if they look tired from working all day because i noe how it feels when you are waiting for your paychecks juss so you can get the things you need or if you have habbits like smoking or something so yea i do sometimes but your not supposed to they could get fired if caught taking the money you give them
