To my knowledge, Angela Bassett seems like one of those typecast actresses.
She always plays these highly aggressive roles. Sad in my opinion, because I really think she can act. If you can think of a movie where she has played a much more diverse role, please let me know.

But in the meantime, here are some of her movies: How Stella Got Her Groove Back, Strange Days, Waiting to Exhale, Contact, can't think of any more right now. All of these roles have one thing in common; she's extremely aggressive in these roles. For some reason, she doesn't play any more diverse roles to my knowledge. Please help me. I would love to watch her playing a nice, educated, not in your face woman with power.

She played a very submissive role in Malcolm X as his wife.

Here is a list of all her movies...was she aggressive in passion fish.

She is in the Ebony magazine and she stated that she will not play a role that demeans women and/or blacks. Maybe this is why she has such a power trip...I like her though, very talented actress.

Angela Bassett is the most real to life black actress out there. Halle Berry is coming into her own, she plays great roles but safe roles. Angela is real and that is why they did not nominate her for the OSCAR for What's Love gotta to do with it.

You know, I'd go even further, I'd like her back on the screens! Where has she been lately! It seems that she needs to get her groove back!!
It's sad because it seems that at one point Hollywood needed her and then dumped her. She has had no major part since the end of the 1990's.

You are right..... I am trying to figure out what role she has not played in that did not make her sooo aggressive. It seems like I can't find any role that fits her being happy, friendly.....less aggressive.
Thanks for making me think.
