Sounds like mildew. You'll need to fill the washer with hot water (no clothes) and two cups of bleach. Let it run for a bit, then stop it and let it sit with the bleach water in it for about 15 - 30 minutes. Then let it cycle on through - including the rinse cycle. That should get rid of it in the drum. If you still smell mildew, you'll need to unplug the machine, open the back, and spray the inside with lysol to kill the mildew on the case.

I suggest that you fill your machine as you would when washing a load of clothes but DON'T put any clothes in the machine at all. After the washer has filled with HOT water then add about a half cup to 1 cup of baking soda and let the machine run it's course.
This should do the trick for you.
I myself have done this and I had to do it twice before all the smell went away. It's cheaper than calling a repair person to come in and go through the whole machine and find out that this is all that was needed in the first place.
Good luck and "Happy Washday" to you!

If it's just a few hours and the clothes are smelly it doesn't sound like the machine is washing them good enough. I know I have left mine in the washer over night and in the summer the clothes would sour. Smell very sour and musky.
Then I have to rewash them. But it should do that in just a few hours unless you live in a very hot place.
Hope that helps.

It's not the washing machine, it's the weather. It's summer time now. If you don't dry the clothes as soon as they finish in the washer they will sour. And I'm sorry to tell you this.....but, the only way to get that smell out is to rewash them, or wear them as they are and hope no one gets close enough to smell you.

Agreed. Mildew. You most likely have a sock or two stuck between the drum and the wall of the washing machine. It happens. You may need to remove the drum to get them out. It will indeed be gross.

There probably mold inside the washer. Go Buy some CLR from your local Eckerds and run it through a cycle. If you cant find that, use Clorox for abour 2 cycles.

I would run an empty load with a gallon of bleach to clean the washer.
