Still keep it clean with rubbing alcohol after every diaper change, spongebath, etc., and it should heal within the next couple of days. If there's no blood, baby should be fine. When my husband was a toddler, he ripped off his newborn baby sister's cord- yeah there's some jealousy issues..... anyways, her belly button is fine.

My midwife told me that umbilical cords don't fall of unless they're ready. Sounds like it could be a granuloma. My baby had this. Its not harmful, and will usally heal on its own. Make sure you clean the area with water and a Q-tip. In some cases, if they aren't healed by 6 weeks, they need to be cauterized. It's a simple procedure where they take a nitrous oxide stick and sort of burn the open area. My doctor froze it with a spay of freezing first. My daughter didn't feel a thing. All the best to you and your little one. God Bless

Here's a website, read a couple paragraphs down, it talks about granulomas.

Just keep putting the rubbing alcohol on it like before. It's the same tissue as the umbilical stump so it won't hurt and it'll help it dry out a little faster.

It will dry up in a couple of days. Just keep putting alcogol on it so it does not get infected... The air will dry it up.
DON'T put Neosporin on it...Alcohol is what you use. I have gave birth to 2 of our 3 daughters and both times they(the Hospital) gave me alcohol wipes to use on their buttons. And I used them at every diaper change. They told me to. They gave me plenty to last till after their cords fell off..

Continue to clean it with the alcohal swabs. It will continue to dry out. Keep the diaper folded under the belly button so it doesnt stick. it will be fine.

Just make sure to keep it clean, i would suggest calling your doctor before using any kind of soap or alchohol since your son is so young. I'm sure your doctor will know exactly what to do! I'm sure it's not a big deal though, it happens with every baby.

Truthfully, I don't know because I've never had a baby, and I don't remember anything about it from when my sister was born, but I just wanted to tell you congratulations!!! One of my really good friends is going to have her baby any day now. Her name is going to be Mariah Jade... I'm so excited for her! Anyhow, congrats again and good luck with your new son!
