At 57000 miles, the check engine light came on and I took it into autozone and they put the code reader on it. The problem showed as my #3 cylinder. The manager and I agreed that it was most likely the plugs so I replaced those and the wires. It came back on a few hours later.Anyone have any thoughts on this (besides chevy sucks!)?

It's a 4 cylinder and it's rear wheel drive.

Check engine light is an emission problem. So the OBD2 reader auto zone plugs in will only tell you about that stuff. If number 3 is bad. Why? Fuel Injector? Coil? Bad ground wire. Take the car to a mechanic a pay the $85 to have them check it out, you can spend a lot of time and money at guessing while a trained tech can get it done. What was the code? Was a P30001 type code?

well , the engine may have an individual coil on each cylinder causing a weak "fire" of #3.Also, it could be a computer malfunction of the "run safe" system.Bottom line take it to Chevy and pay the hundred bucks to check it out .Also , don't trust the "expert Idiots" at a-zone. You , see check engine warning lights are an indication of an emissions problem and nothing real major , unless you live in Cali...

Chevy Doesn't suck. Those readers will only tell you one thing wrong at a time, when you might have had more than one. For example: If your standard car wont start, try pushing in the clutch. If it still won't start check the starter. If it still wont start check your gas. If it still won't start... See?? Eliminate cheep stuff first then start looking at the rest of it.

Chev's fuel injection needs checking the computer gives a signal to each injector to squirt fuel in the correct time. the injector clicks each time and can also be checked with a niod light to see if the computer is giving it the signal. injectors are cheep in comparison to a new computer

Chevy sucks.

Actually, if the light came back on, get it checked out again. There is still something wrong (or is that not obvious?).

if replacing plugs stoped the probled for a while, your #3 cylinder is problely fouling the #3 plug, bad rings, leaky valve guides if its fuel enjected, falty injector
good luck

I'm sorry to report that you should've bought a Ford. But a 57,000 miles on a GM product, how can you complain?

Try removing the check engine lamp, it may be the cause of your problem. LOL
