There was a storm recently will the hard drive be salvageble. I need to get the information for my business. Do they sell processors that I could install if everything else is ok, or should I just buy a new one.

Somethings to do will be;

Open the computer and check all cables and connections
Remove the CMOS battery to reset the Bios
Disconnect any hardware that you don't need to boot up
Take the Ram out and then put it back in

If none of this helps then it is either a power supply problem or the CPU is blown and the only way to find out which one is to remove it and test it with a working one.

Were you in the middle of doing something on the computer when the storm knocked it out? That is when computers are most venerable, a power outage while in the middle of a computation. If that was the case, then it's hard to tell how much damage was caused. The hard drive may have been damaged as well. You should get in the habit of "backing up" your computer. Especially since you run a business and you rely on it. Protect your data! A suggestion for you, on your next computer install an extra hard drive just for back ups. Or purchase an external hard drive for that purpose. Then back up your main computer every evening. Don't get dinged again! I don't know if you can get the data off the old hard drive. I would install the old hard drive on another computer and see if it is still working. If it is then install into your new computer and use it as a back up drive.

I would first check the RAM,if you have two or more modules,try booting up with just one in,if that fails,try the other one.You might hear a series of beeps.That can rule out certain hardware.Have a tech test out your system.It could be a bad motherboard.Pay attention to those beeps then try and search them on google.Good luck.Sorry I couldn't be more helpfull

you may have to buy a new computer, but you can take the hard drive out of the old one and use it in the new one and be able to get all the info off of it... it sounds like you fried either the processor, or the motherboard.

try resetting your cmos, there is a jumper on the board for this, just taking the battery out will not drain the chip, you would have to leave it overnight or longer for the charge to drain down, the jumper is usually be the battery and is usually labeled, just short those pins for about 10 seconds, and see if it boots
