Why are people ( Americans) so fascinated with celebrities, rather than important issues in the world?

I'm an American and dont try to make this country seem all goody-goody cause it's not and it's clear to see. Offense taken hopefully. This country is not heaven and does not need to be placed on a pedastole, and those who do it are misinformed.

As it is facing everyday life can be hard for some people. Looking into others pain and humiliations can sometimes alleviate the everyday pressures of regular society.It's not hard to get caught up in Brad and Angie's life. Especially if your own home life sucks and is not interesting. This is a substitute for there non existence in the real world problems ;and the issues that comes along with everyday life. This is important to them, take it aways and some people unfortunately feel they have nothing to live for. So you see it can also be flip around and other people feel that world issues are way more relevant. All what you see as more important in your life at your time and events around you.

Why are their people like you all around the world that are so fascinated with the American people, and our culture, and belittling us that you pre occupy yourself with thinking of stupid questions like this one.
The answer is because we can.America is so stable and strong in every area of "important issues" that create a Global leader in every area of consequence, that we can take time to be fascinated with anything we like.
If you are American you should be ashamed of attempting to defile the image of this country, if your not you should concentrate more on getting your country to the Global level of America and less on what Americans choose to celebrate in others.

We are conditioned (brainwashed) to care only about celebrities and sports. Boys and girls are being raised by TV and magazines, not moms and dads. The media controls everything we see, and the media wants our money. So they condition us. The way they do this is by making our lives feel inadequate. Our concern with celebrities stems from a dislike of our own lives. As if we all dream to be famous.

Americans are a minority. The rest of the world does not live like we (Americans) do. It's sad to see how ethno-centric we are.

Many Americans have little concern, and especially knowledge, about the rest of the world. However, I guess you can't generalize everyone....

I don't know... what are the important issues of the world. And why is everyone ragging on Americans. Just cuz some of our country is prejudice and such doesn't mean we all are. If I read one more question about "Americans" Being sucky I am going to shove a pencil in my computer plug outlet. you don't hear us going on here asking why people from Europe dont' care about anything except the "latest fashion" and them selves!!

I think often we are jealous of other people. This makes us interested in what they do, but our life seems boring and their lives seem interesting and nothing like our own. It is a reality break. But some people (Americans) are interested in important issues. We hear about the celebrities, but we never hear about the kids who give up their summers to work like this year to help rebuild after Katrina. Those kids are the heroes, but they are never talked about.

Personally, I like the 5 minute famers...the court tv shows...real life, just add water drama is much better than celeb lives.

Because the elite that runs the US wants to keep you americans dumb, so that they can continue their schemes to make themselves richer and more powerful.
