What is the correct way for the toilet paper to go on the roll? Why?

This is fun to get others views on this. It's been a great debate in our house for years. :)

Difficult to choose a best answer because every one of you is correct in your opinion.

I have tried the theory of over the top being more sanitary and I find that I still touch the top of the roll while tearing it off.

So,I am going with the UNDER-dog as the best answer on this one,just because this is the way my husband prefers the roll. I will try putting it over the top today and see if the roll gets changed back. :)

Sorry, guess I'm different. I like to have it tear off from the bottom. I will change it if it's not. It's so much easier to tear it off straight that way. It goes out of control otherwise.

That is funny, this is a debate in our household also.

I say over the top and I strongly belive it is for sanitary reasons. Under just has a propensity to fall to the floor, stick to the wall, etc.

Main argument -

Over the top means you, the toilet user, are touching only the paper you are going to use. Leaving the rest untouched.

Under means even when you are though pulling off the required amount you have to touch the rest of the roll thereby unsanitizing it for the next person or else the roll keep spinning.

DEFINITELY coming from the top of the roll, not from underneath. How do I know this, you ask? I know because when you buy gag toilet paper with cartoons on it, or decorator printed toilet paper, the print side only shows if you pull it from the top. If the roll has it coming from underneath, you don't see the print! And if I'm wrong? Then so are all the companies that make the printed stuff! Oh, and in the better hotels, the maid folds the first piece of toilet paper on the roll into a "V", and that doesn't work from the bottom.

Now I'm going to submit this answer and Yahoo will tell me to go on and answer another question because I'm ON A ROLL!! lol.

When I first tried yahoo answers my first question was: When men put a new roll of toilet paper they put the end of the roll on the bottom and women put the end of the roll on top. Why and who is right? Not same as yours but I selected best the the whole answer was check the pattern of the paper. That person was right. They know sales are based on knowledge

It HAS to go over the top, otherwise it just keeps rolling and rolling, in to the floor, wasting all that perfectly good paper. Besides, it's harder to find the beginning of the roll from the bottom. You can spin and spin and still not find that first sheet. Then you end up ripping into it making a big mess and wasting even more tissue.... SO, I vote for "Over The Top".. Waste not, Want not.......:)

A Friend of mine used to work at a hotel and was trained to put the tp on so it rolls over the top. I prefer it that way at my house too.

If using one hand t.p. from the top is pulling against the wall so as to part easier .Where as pulling from the bottom the whole roll lifts up. But what are you doing with the other hand?

I always have the paper coming over the top of the roll. Not
that it's necessarily the correct way, just the way I do it.

over the top, if it is from the bottom it seams to want to stick to the wall and its just wrong, for some reason I find it interesting that most guys I know do the over the top way but most girls do the under method, wonder why that is.

The paper must be rolled off the front! So that you will not touch the rest of the roll. So you won't get germs in your um..Dairy-Aire!
