Just tell her that you have had your first period. And trust me, she won't over-react. She has gone through tons of them and understands. If she's anything like my mom, she'll talk your ear off about what to do, what foods to avoid, and ask if you want to get on birth control... sheesh.

Hun, there is no way to avoid the embarrassment after you get it unless you talk to your mom and ask her to not tell the WHOLE family or what ever you think she might do. LOL My grandma called distant relatives to tell them my great news.

sweetie, that's something you just have to face! my mom did the same thing to me. i guess moms do that because when you get your first period it's a sign that you are now a young lady. just tell her and bare what will happen after that.

I never told my mom (but we weren't that close for me to feel comfortable in doing so either). but i know now that they know -- regardless if we think the do or not - they know.
my niece is very close to her mother and she tells her everything.... she went in crying and said she started and that got her sympathy and her mom didn't over re-act.

I just went straight up to her, said "mom, my period started today" she hugged me, gave me a kiss and continued reading. Simple

Tell her you would like her to get you some maxi-pads at the store. She'll catch on.

If she's your mother, she'll understand. Just approach her and be like "mom, i need to talk to you about something... can you please help me, i'm kind of embarrassed, so don't make it a big deal.. but, i had my period"
