So we have a joker who says Chris Rix,
one who says Leinart (didn't run the option),
one who says Bush (isn't a qb),
one who says Favre (great NFL qb, not an option qb)

This certainly isn't the kind of input I hoped for. Now naming Nebraska qb's makes sense. In fact, I'd say Tommie Frazier is probably the right answer. I also tend to favor Jamelle Holieway (Oklahoma) as a candidate.

RL8791 has offered up eight great quarterbacks, none of whom spent any large amount of time running the option.

The Michael Vick version of the option must have been that Michael had the option to run left or to run right.

Tommie Frazier is BY FAR the best option QB to play college football. Too bad about his health issues....he may have been McNabb/Vick when McNabb/Vick were still in high school.

It's impossible to compare one era to another. Many answers seems to be focusing on the last season or two, but college football has had many quarterbacks in earlier years that were just as celebrated as the recent crop, such as:
Johnny Lujack, Notre Dame
Gary Beban, UCLA
Roger Staubach, Navy
Jim Plunkett, Stanford
Pat Sullivan, Auburn
Archie Manning, Ole Miss
Peyton Manning, Tennessee
Joe Namath, Alabama
-just to name a few

Jamelle Holieway since he led the Sooners to a great victory to the '85 National Title. He's a great runner & rusher! He's also considered the greatest option quaterback of all time by a lot of analyist.

That's just my opinion.

Are we seriously kidding here? Eric Crouch of nebraska was the only QB to run and throw for 1,000 yards in a season and was nebraska's all time leading rusher for QB. I think he won a national title too (or at least was in the title game?)

Michael Vick was the perfect option quarterback for the collegate level. His 6 foot 215 pound frame and 4.25 speed was virtually unstopable. He is arguably one of the best college players ever if you ask me.
