Personally, I like dark.
There are great milk and dark chocolates. I suspect that many milk chocolate lovers prefer it because they've never really had great dark chocolate. If you've only bought your chocolate at a grocery store, than the dark chocolate uses very low quality cacao beans. This makes it a harsh flavored chocolate.
Trying brands like Michel Cluizel, Bonnat, Domori, Slitti, etc. and you'll find that dark chocolate can be mild, bitterless, but loaded with much more chocolate flavor than a milk chocolate.

I liked chocolate milk, that was when I was in high school. I hardly ever drink that since i graduated from there back in '92. It was nothing but white milk since then. Now that you mentioned it, I'm going back to drinking chocolate milk once again in due time! Heh heh!
