Movies didn't exisist yet. He was watching a play called Our American Cousin. It was a comedy. John Wilkes Booth (Lincoln's assissin) was a really prominent actor, but he was not in the play.

It was one of those old 3d ones, apparently he looked very funny in those stupid glasses you have to wear to watch them.
