If you are talking about mailing in multiple applications for the same job, that's a bad idea. Some jobs don't even involve applications but require a resume instead.
I would repost you question and asking for specific guidance based on the type of job that you want. You might get an answer from someone with experience in the field.

Do a resume, and if you have the applicatoin, e-mail them to the company. If you don't have the application, send in the resume with a cover letter explaining why you are sending this in and what you can offer the company.

I assume you mean how often to send an application to one particular place - never more often than once every six months. They keep those things on file for at least that long. If you send them more often, you will annoy them and reduce your chances of even being interviewed.

Tip number 1: Don't wait for the job to come to you.
I don't know what kind of job you apply for by mail, but, in any case, the people who show the most initiative are the people the BOSS wants to consider for the position.

If its locally, I would take it to them and ask for an interview!
This shows that your interested in a position and are a "go getter". A lot of times, applications become lost or posted in the "circular file - waste basket" because, they figure your not really interested in the job.
But, if your going to do it that way, I would post one every three months, as some businesses delete them after that time.
I wish you well..
Jesse

Only mail one application. Follow up a week later by calling or visiting. Ask them if they received it. If not deliver it in person, or fax it to them, and request confirmation of receipt.

normally only when they have job openings will they accept applications. If you mean resumes, you can send them till the cows come home, cause they don't keep them on file normally, they dump them

have they turned you down or said that they weren't hiring..to just fill out an app. if they turned you down, it doesn't seem like continually sending them an app. is going to help. but if they said that they weren't hiring, and to fill out an app. i would say send a new one once every 4 to 6 weeks.
