A bisexual likes both males and females, while a gay person likes only people of the same gender.

What most people have said is right.
Gay=homosexual, romantic/sexual interest in the same sex and not the opposite sex
Bisexual=romantic/sexual interest in both sexes

But, about the "do bisexuals exist" theory, I have an opinion to say. If this is off-topic, please forgive me. I have known many people, and, unfortunately, yes, everybody is correct to an extent. There are people who say they are "bi" because the fake bi has been a fad lately, but it's still a lie. The idea that some bi people are gay and just halfway out of the closet can also be true, in some cases, where a confused or fearful person might say they are bi, making it easier for friends and family to swallow, when they are actually homosexual. However, there are plenty of bisexual people (I know a lot of them) who honestly have an interest in both sexes. The fact is that it has to be looked at on a person to person basis, and it is best to respect a person's identity. If they say they are bi, THEY ARE BI.

Considerably theory exists here...but, suspect that Bisexual is a person who functions with both sexes, but most probably has a preference (truth be known) to homosexual. Suspect that homosexuals are just more honest, as are Heterosexuals. Bi seems to be stuck between society's view and their personal preference. Bi's will probably protest this answer, but I have been around for a long time, have known (biblical sense) many, many bi's and truthfully, they really got into gay sex. They then went home to their wives. Perhaps this is tmi, but that's how I see it.

A bi-sexual is a 2-4 on the Kinsey scale meaning that they like to have sexual relations with both sexes, they may prefer one or the other but like both. Some one who is gay a 5 or 6 on the Kinsey scale is someone who only likes to be with their own sex and would rather not per take in relations with the opposite sex or just out of curiosity once in a while

The Kinsey scale from their webpage

0- Exclusively heterosexual with no homosexual
1- Predominantly heterosexual, only incidentally homosexual
2- Predominantly heterosexual, but more than incidentally homosexual
3- Equally heterosexual and homosexual
4- Predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally heterosexual
5- Predominantly homosexual, only incidentally heterosexual
6- Exclusively homosexual

It seems like most of them already answered your question. By definition bisexual has intimate relationships with both sexes and gay people have relationships with people of the same sex. I guess it could also depend on how the person defined themself or if they chose to label themself as one or the other.
