What is the main purpose of it -does it determine whether you can get married or not - what if you already have kids together & have been living together as common law Husband& Wife? What exactactly does the blood test mean?

Its not wasting money - we want to get married & so we all share the same last name -I'm tired of being the only one inthe house with a different last name -And we wanted to get married years before -but didn't have the money -we dont want to be Common Law - we love each other very much and want to have it done right

I don't think you have to get them anymore, so long as you have all your shot records from when you were a kid and can prove you've had all your shots...I think mainly MMR and rubella shots are what they are mainly looking for..something about if you haven't had those, it's best to get them before having kids.
But then..that was also for back when people got married before having kids, instead of the other way around, not sure you have to get a blood test at all anymore?

I didn't have to do that when I got married but I lived in Oregon. They used to do it there though. I was told that it was to test the RH factor in your blood. It had something to do with making sure that it was safe for you to have children together. I don't know if there is some kind of waiver you can get since you already have children together but if you really want to get married I guess a blood test is worth it, right?

Not sure I live in texas and didnt have to take one. I believe its basicly an HIV test and the check for other STds so that you know what you are getting into. If you are already "common law" why waste the money on a wedding its not worth it!

The blood test is to check for sexually transmitted disease.
That way the other partner isn't hooking up with someone and gettting something bad in return.

The blood test is a throwback to the days when we thought people did not have sex before marriage. It was intended to detect and prevent disease.

The blood test checks for AIDS, STD's , etc. and for any abnormalities between the new husband and his new wifs blood...nothing to be alarmed about though......just routine procedure.
