First, you have to be big, and you have to be ugly, strong and know how to fight very very well. Karate and tai chi are a couple of types of fighting you need to know. You will also need to have knowledge of guns and knives.

Do a search on google for Bodyguard training or bodyguard employment. There are professional bodyguard companies.

If you want to protect the US President, check out SecretService.gov. They requite you have a college degree and a relativly high IQ. They will train you from there.

Well, first of all, you have to have an impressive muscle structure about your self, and be over 6' tall.

I would suggest to be an effective one, you take not one, but a couple of defensive types of martial arts courses...(I wouldnt think if you didnt have at least a red or black belt in each, then you arent qualified enough).

Being a "bruiser" doesnt quite make it anymore!'
You have to be intellegent, and not just brawns too. People want to know that you can communicate well and act well in public. You can get a "brawler" anywhere, but, people are now wanting intelligence, so you dont lose your temper every time over silly things and get them sued!

Hit the weight rooms, and keep the muscle tone and put on the pounds of muscles...(no steroids, because it causes too many problems like heart disease and associated complications like that!).

I wish you well..

My friend was a body guard. He worked as a detective for NYPD before he became a body guard. There might be other routes, nevertheless, I just know about this one.
