Depends on who told you your IQ is 126. Average is 100, so 126 is a bit above average but not genius. However, an online IQ test is not an accurate indicator of intelligence, so if you got your number from one of those, don't waste your time believing it. You need to get a proper IQ test from a psychologist or from MENSA to know what the number really is.
I believe it's not what the number is, it's what you do with it that matters.

There is a big difference between being intelligent and being smart. Being intelligent means being able to understand and learn things, and to apply them. Being smart means being able to get around in your world. For example, who knows what the IQ of a fisherman is, but he can read the weather, read the waves, understand what is happening under the sea and put that knowledge together to get a great haul of fish. (Hmmm --interesting thought. Not sure why I pulled fish as an example, but fish is supposed to be brain food, isn't it?) Or a mechanic who understands engines and can make anything run again. On the other hand, the cliche about the absent minded professor isn't always that far fetched. He or she may have vast amounts of highly specialized education and informational resources to draw on, but some of them would starve to death if left on an island by themselves.
I have an IQ of 132, but when I didn't use it, I've done some incredibly stupid things.

maybe, maybe not. an IQ test doesn't necessarily tell you that, although 126 probably means you aren't retarded or illiterate.
IQ tests really aren't that reliable. in theory, the average result is 100, but the majority of test takers score above that, making the average i think a little below 120. this may be because those who want to take the test are usually smarter than average, but it also shows the flaws in the system.
other ways to tell if you are smart:
do you come to understand difficult concepts quickly?
do you interact maturely with other people?
can you keep several things on your mind at once?
any of these, especially the first one, is a better indicator of intelligence than an IQ test. especially if the IQ test came off the internet, in which case it is almost completely worthless.

Grade - Range - Percent
Genius - >144 - 0.13%
Gifted - 130-144 - 2.14%
Above average - 115-129 - 13.59%
Higher average - 100-114 - 34.13%
Lower average - 85-99 - 34.13%
Below average - 70-84 - 13.59%
Borderline low - 55-69 - 2.14%
Low - <55 - 0.13%
Depending on the test I have found my self in the upper above average and lower gifted range. I have taken them both online and when I was in school. My husband always test in the gifted range as does his mother and my mother. My husband is an engineer, my mother is a teaching assistant (never finished college, went in at age 16), I have a teaching degree and at the moment I am a SAH me. I have horrible writing skills but excel in mathematics and science. IQ is just one of many things that make up how intelligent a person is - while my husbands IQ is very high and he does very well in school and at work I sometimes wonder about his common sense :)!

Yes you would be considered very intellegent. Average is 100 and 126 is almost two standard deviations away or to sum it up in the top 5%

It's the quotient of intellectual age over chronological age x 100. 126 is pretty smart relative to others your age. If you are 10 years old, then it means you are as smart as median 12.6 year-olds. If you are 20, then it means you are smart as the median 25.2 year-old.
100 is average. 144 is Mensa's selection point for "Genius". 75 is your average Fox News Viewer.

Well, yes in one way. That is the testing for intelligence, but not common sense. I know plenty of people who have good to excellent I.Q. scores, but when it comes to common sense, they are dumb as a box of rocks. Smart at books and education, but dumb at every day life.

Yes. The average IQ is 100. Beware of online tests, though. None of them are at all accurate.
