Conduction? I'm not aware of magnets having such a property.

If you strike a magnet enough times, you'll break the orientation of the molecules in the domains, and it will cease to be a magnet. (You can also magnetize things the same way, by striking them parallel to the earth's magnetic field .... the atoms in the ferromagnetic material form domains and become magnetic)

you can try moving them apart perpendicular to the way they're attached, rather than directly apart, or you can try reducing the field strength with electromagnets. Actually, you can try securing electromagnets to the magnets you're trying to spearate and passing current through them in such a way that they repel, then up the power until they separate.
