Simple, be present, spend quality time with him. And listen, really listen to him. We enjoy one another's company. Show you care. Think of one of his favorite foods and surprise him by preparing that.

Here are some great Father's Day gift ideas for an older Dad:

1. A "Dad" picture frame and put a picture of you and him in it. I gave this to my dad once and he loved it.

2. Men's slippers made of therapeutic foam. Talk about comfy!

3. A nice leather wallet or stainless steel watch. These are items that Dads use everyday, but never seem to buy new for themselves.

You can find these gifts and more unique Father’s Day gifts at Yahoo! Shopping’s Dads and Grads Gift Center:

Hope this helps!

Give him your best - be a true friend and a listening ear. Wish you would have shared a little more about him - to better give you ideas. If he is in a wheelchair, sometimes they just need to get out. A quiet time in the park, if he has trouble seeing an audio tape of a favorite book. Or maybe a comedy CD (clean and light hearted) - but most of all your attention! Enjoy!

A hunting trip. That always makes ME happy. Do 72 year old men like to hunt?

Something to keep it in. A safe.

Just kidding. Try getting him a trinket that might refer to an inside joke you have or something fun you did together. If you went on a fishing trip when you were younger, buy him a statue of fishermen and attach a note about how much you loved that trip.

Hope that helps. =D

I would talk with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and have them tell you things they remember about him. Get photographs, post cards, birthday and anniversary cards that he has stashed----and he will have them somewhere because they're part of his life. Then I would type up all the stories, all of the quotes, jokes, anecdotes, put them in a scrapbook, along with a CD or tape with the voices of all the people who love him....... I imagine that will keep him in peace and fulfillment until God calls him home.

i'd suggest something that money couldn't buy.
how about some nice memories? a collage of pictures of you two together.
or, how about (if you have any) pictures of when he was a young man, not married yet. if he is in good terms with his wife(by this i mean, not separated, divorced, etc.) include a picture of her as well. put either your parents' pictures in the middle of a nice type of scrapbooking paper and surround it with pictures of you and your siblings (if you have any).
i don't really know your family situation but i sure hope this helps!
good luck!

Not knowing his situation, why not buy him a $50 gift certificate to his favorite restaurant?

If a reader, find a good book on his favorite hobby. An older book is always appreciated. If a fisherman, buy him a month's worth of bait. Take him to a ball game. Find what he likes to do and do it with him.
