You can have what are called braxton hicks contractions during your last month or so of pregnancy. They are just warm up contractions and don't do anything to start labor. They may be uncomfortable, but they don't cause any harm. More then likely that is what they are. If they come and go and don't last very long, then they are false labor pains. Nothing to worry about.
If you start getting contractions that last longer then 60 seconds or less then 10 mins apart, then I would call your doctor. Also contractions that you can't talk through, or walk through, I would call.
When you get these little contractions- by little I mean you can't tell they are contractions or not- try to walk for a minute, get up from you are and move around a little, take a warm bath, drink 3-4 glasses of water, and then see what happens. Usually one of this things, or a few combined will stop them. If it doesn't, then call your doctor.
If your doctor doesn't seem to worry and says that he/she isn't seeing anything to worry about, then I wouldn't worry too much. Has your doctor done an internal exam yet? This will tell them more then anything else will. If he has, and there is no change, or very little change, then all is well and not to worry.
I know you want to have this baby; we all get like that close to our due dates, but the longer the baby can stay in there, the better. Even a few days longer will give your little one a better chance at not haveing complications upon delivery. Trust me, a 36 weeker is always iffy. My 36 weeker was small for gestational age and had respiratory distress syndrom, she was on a ventilator for 24 hrs after birth and in the NICU for almost a month.
I don't tell you this to scare you, or to upset you, I just want you to know that the longer you can hold on and not have this baby, the better off you will be.

My goodness, if you are already having contractions, don't sit at the computer getting help from Yahoo Answers! Never mind what other people say--go to a doctor ASAP. Some babies DO come as early as 8 months. Don't take a chance--good luck.

I know you're excited about your new baby. You might be having braxton hicks contractions, your doctor can tell you better than I can .
Good luck with the little one. Also, everybody gets scared.

Some women experience false labor pains, but it's better to be safe than sorry. The best thing you can do is to remain calm. Everything will be fine. If you have concerns, don't listen to people who tell you to ignore them. It's not their baby.
If they've stopped now, you have nothing to worry about. Still, you can probably call your doctor and ask him if everything you've experienced is normal.

Anytime now - prepare yourself. Whatever date the doctor gave you - two weeks before or two weeks after could be considered normal. So - it's time; PREPARE YOURSELF. And Congratulations.
