For the love of god would nobody use limewire have have had to reformat 7 computers of my friends now because of viruses it is a rubbish program that is open to every virus, spyware etc. there is no point building up a collection with limewire will will just lose it to a virus, if you must download either do it legally from www.itune.com google video www.tv.com etc. or if you must go illegally download use bit torrent and tusted sites like mininova.org. these are managed and is there is a problem with a file it is removed striaght away. this is illegal and i in no way condon this action but please don't use limewire it is really bad exspecially if you don't know what you are doing. you have been warned and i am sure you will ignore me but trust me it is more hassle than it is worth do you really want to reformate your computer and loss all your work

Limewire the application isn't illegal; it's what you download on it.

Let's say I download Limewire. Have I broken the law? No.

Let's say I download some free, open, non-copyrighted songs by indie bands, who did so intentionally. Is it illegal? No.

Let's say I go on Limewire and download the RHCP's Stadium Arcadium. Is that illegal? YES.

In conclusion? Limewire itself is not illegal but you are responsible for what you download on it. Don't download copyrighted material from Limewire; the cops are really starting to crack down, and your Internet Service Provider may help them out.

Nope not illegal in the united states, at least not yet, it will be if the evil terrorist organazations: the RIAA, and the US congress have thier ways...

It is however illegal to use limewire to download music, and it is relatively easy to track... it truely only takes one song to catch somone, but I'm not sure how many you download before they will actualy take action...

It doesn't seem to me like these illegal organizations (the RIAA is illegal under the sherman anti-trust act, and has been fixing record prices at an artificialy high level for years, and the congress has been slowly destroying the constitution over the past 100 years) have been too active lately, but I'd be catious if I were you (like not posting the fact that you downloaded the music on yahoo answers).

****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ****** ******
To someantha, who says limewire is "stealing"... yes, to a degree, it is (but not under the origional US constitution, as information is exempt from copywrite)... opperating a monopoly is VERY illegal, however, under the sherman anti-trust act, and the RIAA, and industry associations artificialy cooperate to raise prices, this is forming an illegal trust (essentialy a monopoly), designed to artificialy inflate prices... under the free market, the retail price of a CD would be about 3-5 US dollars... but the RIAA, and other associations hold that price at an artificialy high, non market influenced level... THIS IS STEALING ON ITS HIGHEST LEVEL, AND ALMOST ANYONE WHO HAS EVER BOUGHT A CD, HAS BEEN ROBBED/PRICE-GOUGED... THe reason this is allowed to happen is because people like you are to dumb to stop electing political leaders that are in the pockets of specoial interests...

As for myself, I will not say wether or not I download... but I can tell you, I do not discourage it, and hope it continues, until the RIAA and other trusts within the industry are forced to go bankrupt, or disband... when legal, and ethical buisness practices return to the industry, I will not only DISCOURAGE downloading, but I would also buy allot more CDs (more than enough to make up for any revenu lost to lower prices), and I would encourage others to to the same...

RIght now, I am encouraging a boycot of any matterials released by any of the RIAA members, and highly discouraging purchasing ANY PRODUCTS sold by Song/BMG, since they tried to infect music lovers computers with a destructive virus (don't believe me?, go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XCP ).. COMPLETELY EVIL AND UNETHICAL, this program attacked the computers of those who LEGALY purchased the affected discs from sony...

Why should anybody "play fair", when the industry doesn't, is currently breaking the law, and nothing is being done by our congress to stop its illegal activity... instead, those sadistic b*sturds turn our own congress against us!... YOUR KIND DISGUSTS ME!... IGNORANT PEOPLE LIKE YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!

It is illegal to upload the files. However, in Canada it is legal to download the files (keep in mind that files need to be uploaded by someone to be downloaded). In the U.S., it's illegal for both. So in Canada, it is perfect fine to download as many songs as you like, as long as you do not upload any. In the U.S., it's different though. So, Limewire is not exactly illegal but anything you do on Limewire is illegal in the U.S. because both uploading and downloading are illegal. Basically, if you're worried about being caught, find a legal downloading site that you're going to have to pay for.

using limewire to violate the rights of the material's copyright holder is not only illegal, it's immoral. they call it "stealing." the program itself is NOT illegal, because there is plenty of stuff that is either not protected by copyright, or the copyright holder has extended a free-access use license to the public.

limewire is for downloading legitimately the same way zig zag papers are used for tobacco.

the most ridiculous part about limewire is that it is not necessary. you can get free music with the artist's blessing(s), and it kicks a$$.
