As someone who grew up in the 1980's, the classic high-school movies of John Hughes were extremely important & popular. Do you young whipper-snappers give a crap about these movies? Are you even familiar with them? ("The Breakfast Club" "16 Candles" "Ferris" etc).

Didn't even know who you were talking about until you mentioned some movies. I like 16 Candles...but that's the only I've seen.

I am actually a Gen-Xer (hit 13 in 1981) and I am slightly obsessed with John Hughes body of work, particularly his fascinating insights into 80's teenage life/High School.

I recently read through all of the comments at IMDb for such greats as "The Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles" and came across some of the comments made by today's teens. In most cases they seem to think the movies are okay but I don't think they understand why these movies are so great.

One comment was, "This is the dark side of the eighties, make no mistake.."

I guess you just had to be there (the 80's of course)!

Yes, I have seen all of the aforementioned movies and I love them all. I am 21 years old. I watched them first when I was a young kid, and then again when I was older. They're classics, and I think many people in my generation recognize that. Plus, they are shown on TV quite often which increases the familiarity.

Wow, not a clue who you were talking about until I saw the titles of the movies. I have seen "The Breakfast Club" - love that movie! And I've seen "Ferris" I think. If it's the one I'm thinking of, meh, it was decent.

You're just setting yourself up for major disappointment, dude. If Ashton Kutcher's not in it, they're not gonna hang along for the ride. If they do, they're the ones who don't represent the norm anyway.

I love John Hughes movies. He's so sappy and great!!!

I think his movies are great but I was a lil kid when they came out and I continue to watch movies that were before my time or after it's just a matter if they are entertaining enough to keep my attention.

i love 16 candles. that's one of my favorite movies. i can so relate. my favorite line is when molly's character is outside her house after being dropped off and she's like "the donger's been here for 5 hours and he's already found someone, i've lived here all my life and i'm like a disease." that's so me.
