Grizzly... There is documentation of spanish pit fights between grizzlies vs lions and tigers. It was said that the Grizzlies killed the lion or tiger facing it with ease. Tigers and lions hunt thin animals built for speed which is why they can easily kill them with a neck bite. That would not work with a bear whose neck is wider than the tiger himself. Also as the one person mentioned about tigers killing bears in siberia, he is partly correct. Siberian Tigers have been found to kill brown bears but they are cubs or small females, or the much smaller Asiatic Black bear which also shares the territory and these cases are usually when the the tiger catches a smaller bear by surprise while it is hibernating. However, Tigers are often killed by male brown bears. There was even a case where two very very large tigers were found dead near eachother, both by a single male brown bear. Also has been found that many male brown bears like to follow tigers, and steal their kills. In small part to the competition with bears, the Siberian tiger population is on the decline while the bear population is very stable, even though the bears are hunted much more often by humans. (of course habitat loss is the biggest cause) So if it was a male grizzly vs a male tiger the male grizzly would win almost every time, the only grizzly a tiger would kill is a small female or cub. Also it is well accepted that no animal of equal weight is as strong as a bear. A small black bear that wieghed 120lbs was seen flipping stones that were found to wiegh 350lbs with one paw back handed with little effort. Finally grizzlies have an extremely high bone density designed for digging and uprooting. For this reason they are actually able to break a full sized bull's back with one swing of its paw. On the other side a tiger has low density bones for agility. Because of this, the lions and tigers who were killed by the bear's in the spanish pits were often found to have shattered skulls (high bone density meeting low bone density = shattered) Even more if u want to make it even more of a knock out, a polar bear and kodiak bear can grow to 3 times the size of a full sized male siberian tiger. Also, Grizzly bears are born fighters. They will fight with other grizzlies for everything. On the other hand Tigers are found to do anything to avoid a fight. So Tigers are not nearly as experienced in fighting as a grizzly bear. Finally, to the person that said that the bear would stand up allowing for the tiger to bite it, thats only in the movies. Bears only stand on their hind legs in order to smell long distances. When preparing for a fight a bear will never stand up.

You do realise that grizzly bears are just a type of brown bear, right?

And you do realise Siberian tigers share the same habitat as brown bears?

And you do realise that Siberian tigers routinely kill and eat brown bears, right?

That should answer your question. Tigers can and do kill brown bears all the time. Maybe a Kodiak or a really huge grizzly might put up a fight, but I doubt it.

Diet

Carnivore. The Siberian tiger needs large prey to survive, like boar and red deer; will hunt for elk, lynx, even bear or smaller prey like fish, rabbits and hares.
