Specifically, I'm looking for info on growing house plants and vegetables -when to water, what kind of soil, etc. It seems like there should be an easy website to cover these sorta things. Anyone know of anything?

I use almanac.com and the National Gardening Association. I also saw someone mention Martha Stewart...also good site.

Try www.birdsandblooms.com
They have quite a variety of gardening etc and also have a magazine that you can subscribe to. I have learned quite a bit from them.
