It's not a UK entry to the world cup; England is a nation just as scotland is a nation. Scottish people decide, on the occasions when we haven't qualified, which other nation to support. I would personally chose this on either a nation i respect for their footballing heritage or skill or a nation which I feel an affinity for - these respectively are Brazil or ireland. I feel neither for England - Their skills are less than brazil and I do not feel affinity for an imperialist nation who oppressed not only Scotland but many nations across the world in the days of the Empire ( I know it was called the British Empire, but in reality it was the E nglish Empire. Her's tae us whae's like us , damn few and their awe deid !!

Who says we dont? I know plenty of Scottish people who would like to see England win. Obviously we would prefer to be in it ourselves but its not likely thats gonna happen so England (or Wales if they were in it) winning would be the next best thing. It seems to me that it is mainly certain English people who carry a huge chip on their shoulder and are arrogant enough to think we go round hating them all the time when quite frankly we dont give a toss whether a person is english or not! I think a lot of Scottish people get so fed up hearing about how they dont want England to win that they actually do support teams from other countries as they are sick hearing about it. If it were the other way around would the English support Scotland? And why are England fans so concerned with getting Scottish support anyway? Our opinions are not valued as much with any other sport or tournament England are involved in. Also, why do English people refer to an English sportsman as English but when its a good Scottish sportsman he is referred to as British - not Scottish? People need to stop this silly racism between each other - its not the 1600's anymore

We're the Auld Enemy! Why shouldn't they?
Not all Scots are anti English just as not all English are Anti Scot. A lot of it's just banter.
That said, I would recommend a look at the history between our two countries. It's gruesome reading and a certain amount of national bitterness is understandable.

Why should they, the french don't support the Spanish or Germans, but they are all part of the EU, and it's the same with the English and Scottish, English don't support the Scots either.

Why it is obvious, Scottish are very intelligent people with high IQs and a very logical mind
However, anyone with more than one brain cell does not support England

We are right behind Trinidad & Tobago. Firstly we desperately want them to beat England (which they probably won't), secondly they have a number of players who play in the SPL and lastly we really don't care who knocks England out, as long as someone does !

How about a little history lesson via Hollywood. Go rent the movie "Braveheart." Then if you ask the question again, go jump off a cliff.
Who cares anyway. Soccer Sucks.
I hope this answer provides you with absolutely no information.

I don't know if many English people would back Scotland either...might be that English football fans have a reputation across the world, and not a good one.

Because they're still a little sore over the real-life historical events that inspired the movie "Braveheart".
