It's not about being wrong or not. It's about likes and dislikes. If you like asking questions and answering them on this site, it doesn't mean you are right or wrong, it just means you like doing that.
If you like reading books, then you like reading books and if you prefer playing video games the play video games.
2 billion people watching the World Cup, yes it's a lot, but it's nothing to be wrong or right about. Most of those people like watching a game with their friends and betting with them. A lot like the atmosphere, the mood when watching a football (soccer for you Americans) game. Some people just like to bet and others like a little bit off these three reasons and more.
If you don't like it then you should try doing something you like.

Don't assume the majority has it right. The majority of people:
-Are not wealthy or successful
-Lose when they bet
-Think the idea that America is causing global warming is fact
-Believe their congressman does a good job
-Think they are of above average intelligence
-Think they are better than average looking
Just because a majority believe something, does not make it true. And....Oh yeah...soccer sucks!
