I'm partial to marines. To me Marines get more respect and it's more of a brotherhood thing. Look at the news they say Marines when talking about Marines and make the army sound generic by saying soldier. The army sounds like is just something you do not something you become . People i know ALWAYS tell me the Army is full of idiots. they say, the way it works is the Marines are first . Purpose: to take control and gain the territory and bomb and kill, then the army goes in purpose: police the area and still fight a little and bring in the supplies and rebuild. But they can't do their jobs right because they keep getting killed.

My son wanted to join the Marines, I told him I did not have him so that he could have concentric circles pointed at his body. I told him either Navy or Air Force. (I was in the Army).
He joined the Navy and said there were many former Marines in his A school and said they were treated very badly in the Marines.
He is now in the Navy, attached to a Marine unit. His knee got destroyed in the Marine PT carrying a 250 pound guy in a fireman's carry. Now he is awaiting surgery.
Don't join the Marines! Forget the uniforms. The Navy and the Army just changed theirs.
But thanks for thinking about joining.

What it boils down to, what do you really want to get out of the choice?
The marines have a limited number of job choices, are very strict, and the training is physically demanding.
The army has many more job choices, a better chance of promotion, and a better chance of using your occupational training in the civilian world.
The navy and air force have the best technological training and therefore are the easiest to transition to a civilian career. Promotion opportunity is better than the marines, worse than the army and the physical demands are less than both the marines and the army.

I was in the Army and we always joked about Marines, but in the end this is what we said to them:
"We both took the same oath to defend the United States of America against all enemies, with our lives if need be. The difference between you (Marines) and me (Army) is that you raised your hand and said, 'Can I go first?'"

My best friend was in the Marines and she Hated it but it all is a matter of opinion .I know that the Army is a good choice as well either one you would be the one to make that final decision . I would go to both of the recruiting offices and ask them what they have to offer and choose from there.

ok here is the deal, i was in both the marines and the army. in the marines it is very hard to get a certain main occupational specialty or mos. it is also difficult to get a station preference. but other than that it is very similar. the marines tend to get more respect because it is more difficult to get through the training. and also there are stronger unit bonds in the marines (something easier to understand once you are in) but either choice you make, BE SURE everything they say to you is in WRITING and also read THE ENTIRE CONTRACT and have definite understanding of everything you read. good luck and God speed. if you have any other issues you can contact me using the yahoo answers thing or messenger or email...whatever

Neither, go get yourself a good education without going into the military. You could
end up in another war somewhere.
You better really sit down and think about
this one. It could be life or death for you.
If that's what you want then go for it, man.
I have seen a lot of my buddies not come home.
Not from the present war but long ago, a war called VietNam

If you want to be in the first landing craft hitting the Beach, then it's definitely the Marines, if you want to get a trade and an education and stll be relatively safe... by NOT being in the first landing craft hitting the Beach... then it's the Army.

I would say army.... Marines are more violent in my mind. that and they are more like cannon fodder right now than the army. But it does depend on what time of job skill you are looking to obtain, and what kind of life outside the military you want.
