During the winter, do a lot of ground feeding...where you just scatter seed on the ground. And **Don't** clean up those shrubby thickets that may be around your place. If there is anything that attracts them, it's shrubby cover. So throw lots of seed into the bushes.

This time of year they are off having their babies, and are in hiding, but once the kids are born, you may start seeing them again.

Basically, winter is the best time to initially attract them, and to get them to stick around you yard.

Bob J gave you a good answer, I will be a little more specific. Set out some Plum trees adjoining your lawn. Plant these very close so that they for a protective canopy for the birds. Plant some Korean Lezpadeza. This is one of the favorite foods of Quail. Trap the opossums . These animals will eat all the quail eggs that they can find.

Do you ever hear quail calling? Usually just before dusk. If you don't hear them then they are probably not in your vicinity. Hard to attract them if they are gone. Around here the fire ants have killed them all off. Quails are ground nesters and fire ants have decimated the eggs. Pity, too.
