Believe me, they are happy to be HERE! They could care less what their ancestors suffered.

Have you ever thought of what the slaves did for you? which white person at that time or even now will do all the stupid work they were forced to do? most of the source of labour were mainly from slaves. you think if the slave master sat there and came up with an idea and no slaves to do all the higly labour intensive work, america will be what it is now?
And which countries play the major cause of Africa's hardship?
Its all about rich countries exploiting the less fortunate ones.
I bet in a couple of decades to come people are going to ask similar question like "would iraqis prefer US invading their country making them refugees in US or are they glad they are not leaving in Iraq because of the mess the war has caused!" after nicking all the Oil.
African american have just accepted what destiny has placed them. And some people should stop saying africans americans are taking an advantage of them!

A very interesting question. had slavery not happened there would have been black immigration to the US but not on a huge scale. There was an interesting study a years ago that estimated the black population of the country would be around two million and maybe less. Politics would be different as there would be a lot less liberal black democrats in Congress. The immigrants would most likely be conservative. I have never met a liberal recent immigrant from Africa or the Islands. Sports would be different as there would be a lot less blacks participating. Music would be different there would be no rap, hip-hop, blues or rock and roll.

That's a good question.
The world was a different place then, and no matter how bad slavery was, we can't do anything about that now.
Fortunately, we have been able to overcome much of the racism that existed, and African Americans can now be very successful (Condi for President!)

Im black and im glad that we are in America, but I think that us arriving in America had happend another way, because being called a '******' is not fun and being stereotyped for everything is very aggravating, so if we had been accepted into america a different way I think it would have been for us and the way people think of us today, if you look on the way white people were used to treating black people during slavery it reflects on the way people think towards one another and it makes black people want to get revenge for our ancestors and the way they were treated! But if we african americans were living in modern day africa things would be a lot worse (AIDS, poverty, wars, etc.) for us and it would be very hard for us to live and get what we are getting today, I do prefer that I live in the US, but i just want things to change for the African American race!

Hmmm...I don't think that's an either/or question. Of course I would have preferred that my ancestors weren't enslaved and never had to endure those hardships, however the fact of the matter is that it DID happen and as a result I am an American. Since I have been to parts of Africa of course I am glad that I am not living in a continent plagued with poverty and AIDS.

I really don't think anyone cares - what happened happened, and now we're all here. For all you know, they might not even be here had slavery not existed in America. It's completely impossible to predict what would happen if you changed something in history. Seriously. Abraham Lincoln probably wouldn't have been shot if there had not been slavery. Abraham Lincoln may not have had become president if there was no slavery. Who knows? Too many possible changes.

I hope that like me, most Americans would prefer that slavery had not happened. And who's to say people couldn't have migrated from Africa voluntarily, had it not been for slavery?

Sometimes good things come out of terrible things. I'm sure none of them are glad about slavery, even though they now have the benefit not living in Africa.
shakeragroad..., you forgot jazz. And I think we'd be better off without the rap.

At first I did find this racist, but actually an interesting topic. Had there been no slavery, our country would be profoundly different. No civil war, no Lincoln assassination, and how many major companies originally relied on slavery. Would they even exist today? Definitely food for thought.

Their ancestors traded them into slavery which in itself is horrible and it is a terrible thing that they did not have their freedom while slavery was going on in our country. It is a terrible history but it is in the past and we all must now move on with our lifes.
