my guy friends have to live on the streets for 1 week next month because their father believes they should learn to appreciate what they have in life. although i understand what he is trying to say, i dont think two 17 year olds should be homeless for a week to learn that lesson. what do you think about it? they said their father will make them do that since he did that when he was younger (for a month).
i was thinking maybe i should have a friend let them sleep over or something. what do you think of this idea? anything u think i should do?

they will have to stay in chinatown area which is REALLY dangerous at night. lots of druggies, homeless people, and problems there. i was in chinatown at night yesterday for a party and my friends parents refused to let us walk a block for them to pick us up since they said it was so dangerous

I think thats a damn good lesson, but a little harsh. I don't know what you or they or your friends should do besides have a little talk with the man of the house.

It's called tough love. If they are cocky, obnoxious, disrespectful teenagers, it might be just what they need. I'm not one to say teenagers should be dictated to. They're basically adults, they just don't know a fraction of what they think they do and tend to forget just how much they owe to and should respect their parents. Every house should have rules that everybody needs to follow as long as they are living in that house. It may be their life, I won't even argue that one but it is their parents home. If they don't have enough respect to appreciate what their parents are doing for them, then maybe they need to do without it for a while and find out. Anybody who helps them needs the same thing to happen to them.
Lj1-----That's right, Alot of teenagers think they can do whatever they want, like these two. But when it doesn't go your way, fall back on the law. Only punks think they can have it both ways.

I think it is their father who has no idea what it is like to be homeless. Homeless people are dangerous drug addicts and criminals and he is putting his sons in extreme danger with what he is doing. Further, it is illegal to do that no matter what ages his sons are.
BTW, this is the type of stupidity you typically see in liberal parents. They think, oh yeah, experience this so that you have compassion and appreciation etc. Not knowing that the people they are talking about are that way basically because they are bad people.
Their father is ignorant....dangerously so.

Seems a little over the top to make his point. Why not take away the phone, xbox, ipod for a week. Or make him prepare his own food. Who knows, maybe getting out of there will be the best thing for him. But I see no problem helping him out if he asks.

Try to hlep your friends of course! The decision of this father is wrong. There is no lesson to learn beeing homeless. The only thinkg that you certainly learn is to hate so just help em...

I do not think it is right what this father is doing, but you can't really say or do anything. If they show up on your doorstep and ask to stay, then by all means let them in and give them a blanket.

Their dad (and their mom) could get in a lot of trouble for doing that. Since they are still considered minor children, their parents are responsible for their well being. Whether or not it would teach them a valuable lesson, it is considered abuse.

I'd say putting them out to teach them is a bit too much, and could even be considered abuse.Make them work and learn to use money, take away their toys etc.

That's a bit harsh. I think you or your friend should let them stay over whevever possible. I just hope their neighborhood isn't that bad.
