I'd rather have the money and not be famous. Having money and being famous will make those pesky charities run after you.

I don't think most old scientists had not been awarded at that particular time. If you are a "educational-famous" person, you wouldn't expect some sort of money award, but will be famous because of whatever that you had done. And in most case, any person who is alive and famous but somehow not rewarded with money will most likely to get Nobel Prize.
And, it depends on how you are asking. A person might want to become famous for money, particularly, or had no idea about his/her popularity but soon want some money which might not come as wished.

I would love to be famous. Like a movie star or something. But I wouldn't care if I had money or not, just for people to know me or look up to me would be great. Even if I was just known as the girl in the mayonaise commercial.

I want to be famous so my talent would be acknowledged in the mass. And that famous without money does not worth it, i mean if you're gonna be famous then that means that people like you and paying to see you or you're payed to give to them something you made like an artwork or a dress if you're designer.
