Does anyone ever really throw out all of their make-up after 3 months and start over again?

If you bought the kind that was even moderately priced (between $10-$20) for base make-up.....the same for powder....maybe $10 for eye-shadow, the same for blush and maybe mascara and lipstick..... that would be $80 atleast every 3 months just for the bare necessities...not to mention any lip or brow pencils and added shadows and so on... that could be well over $100 every three months... does anyone ever really throw EVERYTHING out every three months? I already know about cross contamination and bacteria so I do not need any information on the subject... was just curious... thanks

No, the only thing I would even consider throwing out after that amount of time would be lipstick and my lipstick doesn't ever last that long. I still have some pretty old makeup (not extremely old, but definitely older than 3 months), and I've never gotten any kind of infection or anything from using it. I don't have really sensitive skin, though -- if I did, I might be more careful.

And by the way, I think the makeup industry must have come up with that three month rule to make a lot more money...same as the thing about changing your oil 3-5K miles, it's just something they came up with to make us spend our money on them more often.

I do actually get rid of mascara every three months or so, but just because it is so easy for bacteria to get on the wand and grow and infect your eyes. With everything else I keep it, I have had some lipsticks for years and I'm still alive so I figure It's not that bad!

i dont...

i mean, some stuff i get through in three months cause im a dancer and do alot of performing so i go through the basics like blush, concealer/foundation, mascara and liner rather quickly.

however what i do do is i run a lighter flame over my eyeliner to kill anything on that, i clean off my mascara container and brush every so often and things like that.

if you dont share your makeup with anyone, theres no chance of getting an outside infection through your makeup, or so i think anyway. and if you have something, such as an eye infection or something like that, then yeah - chuck it all, i say. why risk getting it again? and if nothings wrong with you at all - whats the difference if you use it for over 3 months?

I don't. MAC costs too damn much for all that. I do get rid of mascara and pencils and glosses. But, not the eye shadows. I'd end up going broke every 3 months! I just make sure to keep all of my make up brushes clean. I haven't had any problems yet. No eyeballs falling out or anything like that. LOL.

I throw out mascara after 3 months. I also throw makeup sponges after I've used them, I buy the disposable wedges so I can throw em out. If liquid foundation starts to separate, lipstick has a weird taste, eyeshadow starts to crumble in the pan, well I throw all of those away.

I only toss my mascara after 3 months. Everything else I will keep till I can either finish it up or I notice that it's gone bad -difference in smell/texture etc. I spend too much money on makeup as it is lol don't need to spend more by tossing everything before I have even had a chance to make a dent in it! =)

Well, I never had anyone ever say every three months just on certain products. Normally I only throw away my mascara because it starts to get worn. The other things I just throw away after I use them all up.

I get rid of mascara and foundation--anything with liquid that could become contaminated. I also dump kohl pencils. Lipstick gets used up quickly, but if I find an old one lying around I dump it.

I never used to throw out my stuff. I was told after 3 months to throw out mascara, and of course never to share it!
But until I got an slight eye infection (Not caused by make-up) is when I threw everything out!
Now I will be more conscience of keeping makeup for a shorter period of time!

hell no, i'm too poor for that. the only think i will throw away every couple months is my mascara. the eyeliner usually gets used up in about 5-6 months and the rest i keep until i use it up. i never go by that three month idea.
