I am trying to explode a lit light bulb for a movie i am helping to make. the light bulb will be in full view, filling the frame, so i cannot have the bulb explode by hitting it with something, and i'd rather not drip water on it, which was my other idea.

Shoot it with a bb gun from behind (hidden from the camera)..

drill a tiny whole into the glass. Then put in a TINY bit of something flamable, like mineral spirits, so the fumes will fill the bulb. Screw it in, and when you turn on the switch, it should explode.

Please be carefull, adn be sure you wear eye protection, gloves, etc.

EDIT: the bb gun sounds safer than my way, lol.

Is a light-bulb actually a vacuum, or is there a gas inside it? If there's something in it, you can heat it up so it expands and hopefully explodes.

Your best bet is to get a clip of it happening that someone else has done. If, as you say, it is in full view then it will be terrifically difficult. The way to do it is attach a (small) charge too it and then film it at very high speed so when played at normal speed ot looks great. Very hard to do.

Too many answers here but no one even think that light bulb will not explode because it's vacuum. Implode, maybe.

Yes, shooting it with a pellet/bb gun is a good idea. If you want, you can also go 'Friday 13th' style and fill it will gun powder, then turn it on....boom.

If you don't have a bb gun, get a bb or very small pellet and use a slingshot or throw it very very hard lol.

If you shoot it with a BB gun, the BB will probably be traveling fast enough that it won't show up in the picture.

You could always glue a squib on the back.
