Sub-q is medical slang for subcutaneous, meaning under the layers of skin.

It sounds like someone told you it was a sub-q knot. That is just a term for any nodule under the skin. Have you had an injury to the area? If so, it is probably an inflammation reaction to the trauma and if so, you can massage gently to work it out. It may not be sore at first, but as you work to loosen up the congestion, it can become sore. If it just appeared out of nowhere, maybe have it looked at. As a massage therapist, I see these sub-q knots on everybody and most are nothing to worry about.

no one online can really provide an answer to that! but: can the knot be moved around easily if you try to wiggle it back and forth? if so, it might be a lipoma --- fatty "tumor" If it doesn't move easily or is hard, you should see a doctor as that can be a bad sign; non-mobile or firm knots tend to have higher risk for cancer.
