The only way to stop a horse from pooping in a certain spot is to fence off that spot so the horse can't go there.

Best I can say is that he will generally go at the same time every day unless there is a change of diet. Figure that out and shortly before then, lead him to a spot you would prefer him to use and wait. It may take a while because he is not at his familiar spot. When he is starts, use a voice only good boy compliments and when he finishes pat him and tell him what a good boy he is.
Do this a few times and then let him loose to poop where he wants, but mark his usual place where you don't want him to go by spraying it with diluted ammonia and water. That erases smells there and has an odor that should discourage him from wanting to use the spot.
This may take time because training does not happen on the first time. Patience is required.

got any fence? try putting a fence up where you walk, play ect. He'll be forced to go else where... I've never heard of a horse going in the same spot all the time

sometimes horses in stalls will poop in the same area to keep their stalls clean your horse is probably that kind he's just in a bigger stall in a sense if you don't want him to poop in the place you play your either gonna have to find another place to play or fence of the area if you really want to stay there

my mare does the same thing, both in a stall and outside. my mare does it where there isnt any grass to eat, (she stays in a well shaded area w/ alot of pines) she will go under the pines on the needles. that way she wont have to pick around her piles for grass
