After working in a department for over a year, I was publicly given a promtion to "site manager" (signs posted and everything). Two days later, I was told it wasn't official, and had to apply for it. A week later, I was told it would be a month trial basis, then they would decide what to do. I have been doing the job, with the title on my name tag for almost a month. Do I have a legal right to believe what management has told me, or is this "stringing along" legal? If I am in the right, where can I find the official information?

There are no laws regulating promotions and such. The only way you really could even have a chance at winning a dispute this in court is if your employer had already given you a raise, you had it on your paycheck, with a stub to prove it, and then they took it away. They've probably got you on that though because they came back on you and told you it was on a trial basis. It would be a "your word against theirs" thing and no one would do anything about it. If you work for a chain like Wal-Mart or something like that, you may be able to get something done about it by contacting the main office, or your district manager. Unfortunately, you probably will have no luck with legal action.

that is denial on your mom's section and may be her way of handling some thing (anger administration) she is accepted with little about. I'd complain to Human Resources at your corporate offices. There should be no ambiguity as to your position, responsibility, or salary. Start there. Any legal action depends upon your following the remediation procedures internally first.

We are loosing our worker rights more and more these days due to "We the People" turning into "We the Corporation". Judges just ruled that even if you report wrong doing with your employer they can still fire you. The corporation is the closest thing to a kingdom. Did your pay rise?

It doesn't sound like there is much trust in your organization. I would just ask the manager if he/she has made a decision. Its been a month he/she should be expecting the question. If you want to know, ask. Let me give you the words; Boss (insert name) have you made and official decision on my promotion yet?

What it sounds like the upper management wanted you to have the job. But some of your coworkers whined about it so they backed off. I could be wrong but you have the job, but some cry baby is making it hard.

In the US, They may give you the title one day and take it away the next, you have no right to any title or pay unless you have a written contract. The company can come in tomorrow and cut your pay, take away your benifits what ever they want to do.
They can make you one unofficial with no additional pay all the want if you agree to it, ( and if you don't, they could fire you)
So welcome to working in a real world.
